What a thrill to be able to award grants to eleven departments today. A total of $60,000 is being shared among eleven smaller rural volunteer fire departments to provide everything from lots of PPE to thermal imaging cameras, reflective jackets, a rapid intervention air supply pack, and a washer/extractor. Feel free to read each story and send a personal note if you like. I am overjoyed to be able to make a difference and show my love and appreciation for California’s volunteer firefighters. Good news! The current applications have all been reviewed and we are just one more conference call away from making the final selections. It’s never easy and this time we received over 60 requests. I’m very anxious to get this grant money on the way and I’m hoping the final announcements can be made next week.

Congratulations to all five grant winners who received the news today. I committed a total of $51,500 to five different volunteer fire departments all over California. Pictured above is the team from the Suisun Fire Protection District in Fairfield, California, who were award $25,000 to purchase new turnout gear.
As a special inaugural gift, I also chose the CSFA Steamer Team to receive $4,500 to purchase new embroidered parade uniforms for the volunteers who donate their time doing events to educate the public about fire safety and prevention.
I was lucky enough to see this stunning 1902 fully restored steam engine at the Firehouse World Convention earlier this year. To learn more about all the grants, click here.

Well today is day we planned to reveal the grant winners but we need a few more days. This is a new adventure and we need little more time, but we’ll have the decisions by the end of the week for sure. Thanks for being patient.

It’s only been a week and requests are already coming in! The window to apply runs from April 6th to May 6th so any volunteer fire department in California needing safety equipment still has 3 weeks to apply. It’s easy. All the information and the application form is on the CSFA website: https://www.csfa.net/CSFA/CalFF/articles/Jenny_s_Heroes_CA.aspx
Well it didn’t take long and we are ready to go! In partnership with the California State Firefighters Association (CSFA) I’m offering $50,000 in grants to California’s volunteer fire departments.
I was lucky enough to be invited to the Firehouse World exhibit hall at the Los Angeles Convention Center last month and was able to meet everyone on the CSFA team who put this program together. The highlight of the event was a chance to sit on this stunning 1902 horse-drawn steam fire engine that was meticulously restored by the Hubert family in 1997. It can still pump 1,000 gallons of water per minute! My adorable seat partner is steamer mascot, “Dottie.”
My thanks to everyone on the CFSA team for helping me help the volunteer firefighters in California. For more information on how to apply at the CSFA website click here.
